Year-End Indulgence (Steeple 2016.05)

May will see a number of pieces that are very special to me. As we near the end of the season, and finish the Easter season, and reach Pentecost, it all seems like a joyful time to have fun with our music. On Mothers’ Day, you will hear Thomas Tallis’ anthem “If Ye Love Me”, one of the first pieces I learned as I began my choral study. Tallis sits in a curious period between English Catholic music and the much simpler, declamatory text setting style post-English Reformation. On Pentecost, we will sing two favorites from recent years, “Hlohonolofatsa” and “Come, Holy Spirit”. On May 22, we will sing “Praise His Holy Name!” (one of my all-time favorite choral pieces, in a self-given birthday present). As you listen to this wonderful music, it’s never too early to start thinking whether choir might be a good fit for you in the fall!

One Response to Year-End Indulgence (Steeple 2016.05)

  1. Kelly Lopez-Marcincavage says:

i joined choir this past fall and it has been wonderful. I wake up each morning singing songs we have sung or are about to sing; it connects me to God each day and for that I am grateful! Come join the choir next fall! – Kelly L-M
