The Ties That Bind (Steeple 2015.03)
This passing of David Alabran this winter was very difficult for me. Dave was the first chorister I’ve lost. Those of you who were at his memorial service on Valentine’s Day learned of the manner in which I met him some twenty years ago, and how our paths were realigned soon after I started here at Edwards Church. It was marvelous to see the outpouring of support for him at that service. As I think back, it makes me think about the community that is our church home. Dave was “new” to the congregation, arriving in worship just a few years back. Yet, he immediately was wrapped in the love of our choir, as if he’d always been there. Edwards simply has a way of doing that. Everyone is welcome in every group, and when we say it, we mean it! While I thank everyone who was involved in pulling the memorial service together, I also take this opportunity to think about all the wonderful people who support each of us in our hard times, and celebrate with us in our joyous times.
